Donald Trump criticized anti-ICE demonstrations in Minnesota as “fake riots,” making baseless claims about the protesters and using a racist slogan during a lengthy speech in Detroit.
Following the tragic death of Renee Good at the hands of an ICE agent in Minneapolis, Trump dismissed protesters against his anti-immigrant policies as “practiced” and fake. He also insinuated that a woman seen in a video of the incident yelling “shame, shame, shame” was not genuine and labeled her a “professional troublemaker.”
During his address to the Detroit Economic Club, Trump suggested that the protests were orchestrated, referring to the demonstrators as engaging in a “scam” by practicing together in hotel rooms. He hinted at uncovering the sources of funding behind the demonstrations.
Furthermore, Trump targeted Representative Ilhan Omar in a racially charged attack, insinuating that she was part of fraudulent schemes in Minnesota. He mocked her background and accused her of being a “scam artist” detrimental to the country.
Trump also threatened to revoke the US citizenship of individuals from Somalia convicted of fraud, which is legally impermissible in the United States except for specific circumstances directly related to citizenship crimes. He emphasized a crackdown on fraud and corruption in the country, implying a return to what he described as America’s “native spirit.”
In his speech, Trump vowed to withhold funding from Minnesota and Sanctuary Cities, alleging that they protect criminals at the expense of American citizens.
