A mother reportedly committed a tragic quadruple murder-suicide by killing her two sons, her 88-year-old grandmother, and herself on January 2. The father of the sons has now shared his grief over losing his family.
Authorities from Humphreys County Sheriff’s Office found the bodies with gunshot wounds during a welfare check at a residence in Waverly, Tennessee. The deceased were identified as Arius Thompson (4), Isaiah Johnson (13), Evelyn Johnson (88), and Heather Thompson (32). Initial findings suggest that Heather fatally shot the three victims before taking her own life.
Heather, who was estranged from her sons’ father Jeremiah Thompson, caused immense pain to the father. Jeremiah expressed his devastation on social media, describing the loss of his young sons as heartbreaking.
Sheriff Chris Davis disclosed that there were no signs of forced entry at the scene and no indications of external involvement. He mentioned no prior history of domestic violence or mental health issues at the residence and refrained from disclosing a motive as the investigation progresses. Additionally, he confirmed that Evelyn was Heather’s grandmother.
In an emotional statement to reporters, Sheriff Davis highlighted his connection to the family and pledged to honor them respectfully. Meanwhile, the father, a Subway sandwich maker, initiated a GoFundMe campaign to bring his children back to New Mexico from Tennessee, raising nearly $11,000 towards his $16,000 goal.
In a separate incident, a young mother who admitted to suffocating her child avoided imprisonment as part of her plea deal. Emma Rigdon, 22, recorded herself smothering her infant son and expressed pleasure in causing harm to him. She pleaded guilty to child abuse and neglect charges, receiving a suspended prison sentence with conditions including attending anger management classes and a probationary term.
