Three pedestrians were hit by a vehicle on a busy road when the driver experienced a medical emergency while driving. Emergency services quickly responded to the incident in Bulwell, Nottinghamshire during lunchtime. The police closed off the road following the accident, where a visibly damaged car was observed within a significant police cordon near a Home Bargain store on Main Street.
East Midlands Ambulance Service dispatched three ambulances to the scene, transporting the injured individuals to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham. As of now, there is no information available regarding the conditions of the pedestrians or the driver involved in the collision.
A spokesperson from Nottinghamshire Police stated, “We are currently at the scene of a car accident involving three pedestrians on Main Street, Bulwell. The preliminary assessment suggests that the driver experienced a medical incident while driving. Due to ongoing investigations, the road closure is expected to remain in place for an extended period. Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes and avoid the area.”
The accident occurred shortly after 12:30 pm today, and NottinghamshireLive reports that the road closure will persist for some time to facilitate the investigative process. Nottingham Travelwise has confirmed the road closure from the junction with Station Road to Highbury Road, with traffic congestion reported from Jennison Street to Ravensworth Road, according to traffic monitoring service Inrix.
This incident follows a previous occurrence in April where an elderly man in his 80s was struck by a car on the same road. The man sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was discharged from the hospital after receiving treatment.
