Tekashi 6ix9ine Starts Basketball Team in Brooklyn Jail

Date:

The rapper known as Tekashi 6ix9ine recently entered the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York. This came after he confessed to charges related to assault and drug possession in a gang-related incident last year, resulting in a three-month federal prison sentence. Tekashi 6ix9ine shared his excitement about playing basketball with his fellow inmates at MDC, where he will be housed alongside other notable individuals like Luigi Mangione, accused of murdering UnitedHealthcare’s CEO.

Taking to Instagram, Tekashi 6ix9ine boasted about forming the best basketball team in the prison. He also mentioned past experiences of sharing a cell with Sean “Diddy” Combs and the former President of Honduras, Juan Orlando Hernandez. This marks Tekashi 6ix9ine’s second probation violation leading to imprisonment within a year.

The MDC has accommodated various high-profile figures including Sam Bankman-Fried, Ghislaine Maxwell, and the infamous drug lord “El Chapo.” Situated in Brooklyn’s Sunset Park neighborhood, the MDC primarily detains individuals awaiting trial in the US district court for New York’s eastern district, and those serving short sentences. Recent reports indicate improved conditions at the facility, with reduced violence and enhanced safety measures for both inmates and staff.

Although the MDC has faced criticism in the past, being labeled as “hell on earth” due to incidents of violence, recent improvements have been noted. Despite being designed for 1,000 inmates, overcrowding issues have led to a higher population, raising concerns about the overall living conditions.
