Developed by Insomniac Games, “Marvel’s Spider-Man” has been a top-selling and critically acclaimed open-world game for PlayStation consoles. The latest offering, “Marvel’s Wolverine,” offers a grittier take on the Marvel Universe featuring the character James Logan Howlett.
Set in a different continuity from the Spider-Man games, “Marvel’s Wolverine” introduces players to a story where the X-Men do not exist. The game follows Wolverine as part of Team X, a commando group mentored by Nathaniel Essex, a character reminiscent of a darker version of Professor X. Throughout the game, players encounter familiar antagonists like Bolivar Trask and Lady Deathstrike in locations such as Tokyo and the fictional town of Madripoor.
Unlike the expansive open-world of Spider-Man, “Marvel’s Wolverine” takes players on a more linear narrative journey through various locales. The game offers around 12 to 15 hours of gameplay, focusing on a fast-paced action experience akin to a globetrotting action film or comic book miniseries with diverse settings and challenges.
Combat in “Marvel’s Wolverine” is notably more graphic than in the Spider-Man games, with Wolverine’s claw attacks resulting in intense and bloody combat sequences. Players must maintain momentum and utilize strategic moves to defeat enemies efficiently, adding depth to the gameplay experience.
The game also delves into Wolverine’s relationship with Jean Grey, offering a narrative that explores their complex bond. As players progress, Jean becomes a crucial supporting character, aiding Wolverine both in combat and in the game’s overarching story.
