“Sky Shifts Focus to Internet TV with New Sky Stream Box and Sky Glass TV”

Date:

Sky Q, a highly esteemed set-top box, is recognized as one of the best devices in its category. Renowned for its live TV recording capabilities, extensive access to premium channels, on-demand content, and popular streaming apps like Disney+ and Netflix, Sky Q has garnered significant popularity. However, Sky seems to be shifting its focus away from the traditional satellite-based platform towards internet-driven products such as the Sky Stream box and Sky Glass TV. This move could potentially pave the way for a new competitor in the market for those who prefer physical recordings.

Humax has introduced a new product called the Aura EZ 4K TV Recorder, which shares many similarities with Sky Q. Featuring a built-in 2TB hard drive akin to Sky’s flagship device, the Aura EZ can store a vast amount of TV shows, movies, and sports content. As physical recording options are becoming scarcer, the inclusion of internal storage on this new device is a significant development.

Moreover, the Aura EZ is powered by Freely, allowing users to watch live TV via broadband. Developed by the creators of Freeview, Freely provides access to over 60 live channels and a wide range of on-demand programs. This setup offers flexibility in moving the device between rooms, easy installation, and regular feature updates.

The Aura EZ also boasts 4K HDR picture quality, Dolby Digital Plus audio, and an integrated TV guide showcasing current and upcoming programs. Users can conveniently manage the device through the Humax Aura EZ smartphone app, enabling them to browse schedules and control recordings remotely.

Although Freely lacks the premium sports and movie offerings of Sky, it is a free-to-use service without any subscription fees.

The Humax Aura EZ is scheduled to launch in the UK in February 2026 with a suggested retail price of £249.

In a related development, Sky has unveiled a new subscription bundle that combines multiple major streaming services at a reduced monthly rate. Priced at £24 per month, customers will gain access to Disney+, Netflix, Hayu, and the upcoming HBO Max service.

Sky’s bundled offering is aimed at providing value by consolidating various streaming platforms under one subscription. Subscribers to the Ultimate TV plan will also receive access to over 130 premium channels, including Sky Comedy, Sky Documentaries, Sky Crime, and Sky History.

Additionally, Sky Cinema customers will benefit from a new Disney movie channel integrated into the TV guide.

The £24 bundle includes:

– Netflix Standard with Ads
– Disney+ Standard with Ads (starting March)
– HBO Max Basic with Ads (from March 26)
– Hayu (from July, with selected content available from March)
– Over 130 Sky channels
