“Ryanair Expands UK Routes to Sunny Alicante”

Date:

Ryanair has announced the launch of two new routes from the UK to a lively Spanish city known for its pleasant weather in December.

The low-cost carrier has expanded its schedule for Alicante, now offering a total of 79 routes from the popular Spanish destination. Included in the new additions are destinations such as Bratislava, Linz, Salzburg, Bydgoszcz, Rzeszow, Stockholm Västerås, Småland, and Lanzarote.

Of particular interest to UK travelers are the new direct flights from Cardiff and Aberdeen to Alicante by Ryanair. Flights from Aberdeen will be available on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, with fares starting at just £22 in December. The Cardiff to Alicante route will operate nearly daily in December, with tickets currently priced at £20.

Alicante’s appeal for a winter escape is evident, with its mild climate being a major draw. The city on the Costa Blanca enjoys December temperatures reaching highs of 18C, occasionally peaking at 23C on warmer days. This provides an ideal setting for relaxing on its golden beaches, offering a welcome respite from the gloomy weather in the UK.

With 300 days of sunshine annually and picturesque landscapes, Alicante has become a favorite destination for golf enthusiasts across Europe. The city features renowned golf courses like Las Colinas, Lo Romero, La Finca, and Melia Villaitana, catering to both championship and resort-level players.

Aside from golf, Alicante offers a mix of old and new architectural styles, reflecting its history of restoration and reconstruction following the civil war. The iconic Castle of Santa Bárbara stands out in the city, overlooking the old quarter that hosts cultural events like the Festival of Moors and the Night of San Juan.

Exploring the winding streets of the Old Town reveals a plethora of pubs, bars, cafes, and restaurants, as praised by visitors like Neil Kelly from Liverpool. Noteworthy attractions in Alicante include La Explanada de España, a mosaic promenade flanked by historic buildings and a charming marina, as well as the excellent public transport network connecting the city’s major sights.

For beach lovers, Playa del Postiguet is a popular spot with its white sand, restaurants, and water activities, while Playa de San Juan offers a different coastal experience a few kilometers away. Culinary delights await in Alicante, with Santa Gloria, Bar Cento, Café Tres Texturas, and Brunch It being just a few of the recommended dining spots catering to various tastes.

To add a taste of home, visitors can enjoy British-style cooking at Browns, known for its Sunday carvery. Alicante offers a diverse range of experiences, making it an attractive destination for a winter getaway.
