Retired Police Officer Earns £5,500 Reporting Empty Properties

Date:

During the holiday season, many individuals seek ways to earn extra income to replenish their finances. Retired police officer Roy Foulkes from West Hallam, Derbyshire, has successfully made over £5,500 in cash and vouchers by identifying and reporting abandoned properties through YouSpotProperty.

Introduced to YouSpotProperty in 2024, Roy seized the opportunity to earn additional money by reporting vacant homes. The platform compensates individuals with a £20 Amazon or M&S voucher for correctly identifying an empty property. Moreover, if YouSpotProperty purchases, renovates, and sells the reported property, the spotter receives 1% of the purchase price, capped at £10,000.

Roy’s efforts have been fruitful, earning him £4,750 in 1% rewards from two properties he reported, along with 39 £20 vouchers totaling £780. The rewards have been utilized for household items, vacations, and creating memorable experiences with his grandchildren.

The first property that qualified for the 1% fee was discovered by Roy while strolling through his former patrol area. Despite previously reporting the property to the local council with no action taken, Roy found success through YouSpotProperty, which simplified the process of reporting and rewarding property spotters.

The second property caught Roy’s attention near a former ex-local authority house in Derby. After submitting the report, he was later informed that he had earned 1% of the property’s purchase price, amounting to £1,620.

In addition to the financial rewards, Roy has utilized his vouchers for household purchases, finding satisfaction in contributing to society while earning money through a beneficial and straightforward endeavor.

Empty Homes Network estimates that over £465 billion worth of properties in England and Wales remain vacant or underutilized. YouSpotProperty regularly rewards individuals with £20 vouchers for identifying eligible properties, with an average of 110 vouchers distributed monthly. The company also purchases and revives derelict properties, ranging from £17,000 to £3 million, providing rewards to spotters and aiding in addressing the issue of empty homes.

Co-founder of YouSpotProperty.com, Benjamin Radstone, emphasizes the significance of their initiative in repurposing empty properties, expressing pride in the positive impact on the community and individuals involved in the process.
