O2 has officially announced that millions of its customers are receiving a complimentary quick upgrade. This upgrade is introducing faster 5G+ service to users throughout the UK, providing improved mobile coverage and significantly faster downloads. O2 guarantees a 50% speed increase compared to the older 4G technology.
Apart from speed and reliability enhancements, the upgrade is expected to prolong battery life as devices consume less power by eliminating the need to connect to both 4G and 5G networks simultaneously. Unlike traditional 5G, which relies on 4G support, this new 5G+ service operates independently.
The rollout of this upgrade has commenced for users with 5G+ compatible devices and SIM cards, with activation in over 700 towns and cities already underway.
Christian Hindennach, the Chief Commercial Officer at Virgin Media O2, elaborated on the upgrade, stating, “Our 5G+ service is now accessible to millions of customers across the UK, available to all O2 users across all Plans, unlike other networks. This enhancement improves performance in crowded areas and major venues, benefiting residents and visitors alike, showcasing our commitment to enhancing network quality and delivering a more dependable user experience. We are investing £2 million daily to empower our customers for upcoming mobile advancements.”
