Nightclub Security Faces Assault Charges in Winnipeg

Date:

Three security personnel from a nightclub in downtown Winnipeg are facing assault charges following an incident that left a Winnipeg Sea Bears player seriously injured earlier this month, according to police. Teddy Allen was hospitalized after being assaulted at the nightclub during the early hours of August 3, as reported by the Canadian Elite Basketball League team. The individuals, aged 35, 37, and 58, who were employed at the venue, were taken into custody on Wednesday and charged with assault causing bodily harm, as stated in a police news release on Thursday. They have all been released on undertakings.

Although the nightclub was not named by the police, it was disclosed that the establishment is located on Main Street, between Portage and William avenues. Allen, in a statement released by the team on Thursday, mentioned that he has undergone medical examinations, received a diagnosis, and is currently recuperating at home.

Expressing his dismay over the assault, Allen emphasized that such incidents should never occur to anyone for any reason. He affirmed his resilience, stating, “The thing about my life is that when I’ve been knocked down, I get back up, which is exactly what I’m going to do now.”

Authorities are urging anyone with information, including dashcam footage, security recordings, or cellphone videos from around the time of the incident, to contact the Winnipeg police major crimes unit at 204-986-6219 or provide an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS or online at winnipegcrimestoppers.org. CBC News has sought comment from the Sea Bears regarding the incident.
