“New ‘Friendslop’ Game ‘Big Walk’ Redefines Cooperative Gaming”

Date:

In the realm of video games today, a burgeoning trend known as “friendslop” is gaining momentum, despite its seemingly unconventional name. Titles like Peak, RV There Yet?, and Meccha Chameleon have witnessed significant success in recent times by offering easy-to-grasp gameplay, affordable pricing, and a chaotic multiplayer experience.

According to Patrick Thornley from Langley, B.C., who enjoys playing friendslop games with his pals across Canada, these games are all about collaborative play to tackle seemingly mundane tasks amid the hilarity of friends acting like, well, “a bunch of idiots.” The primary objective is to have fun without taking things too seriously.

A fresh addition to this genre, Big Walk, released this week, exemplifies the essence of friendslop gaming. Combining emergent chaos with a meticulously designed world reminiscent of classics like Myst and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, it stands out as a strong contender for the game of the year, highlighting the significance of friendship and exploration within a virtual sandbox.

The term “friendslop” was coined by a user known as @wooosaaaahhhhh in 2025, popularized in reference to the cooperative multiplayer horror game, Lethal Company, launched in 2023. This concept of “friendfarming” reflects the emphasis on building and nurturing friendships through gaming experiences.

Characterized by their modest budgets and simplistic visuals compared to high-end titles like Call of Duty, friendslop games typically offer straightforward premises, such as scaling mountains in Peak or navigating an RV through rural landscapes in RV There Yet?. These games often incorporate proximity chat, where voice communication weakens as players move apart, leading to closer interactions or the need for alternative communication tools.

While success isn’t guaranteed, friendslop games have seen remarkable popularity recently. For instance, Peak by Aggro Crab has sold over 10 million copies since its launch in June 2025, while Meccha Chameleon achieved the same feat within just 16 days of release.

In the latest entrant to this genre, Big Walk from Melbourne’s House House, players embody cartoonish characters exploring an Australian outback-inspired terrain. Through teamwork, players solve puzzles to progress, with each challenge offering a unique solution, ranging from simple to intricate.

Unlike procedurally generated environments in many friendslop games, Big Walk presents a meticulously crafted world that encourages players to communicate effectively and collaborate to overcome obstacles. The game not only focuses on completing tasks but also emphasizes the journey of learning and bonding with friends through shared experiences and challenges.
