“New Evidence Alleges Nephew Shot Tupac in 1996”

Date:

In a recent court session, jurors were presented with an audio recording from 2008 where Duane (Keffe D) Davis stated that his nephew, Orlando (Baby Lane) Anderson, was the one who shot and killed rapper Tupac Shakur in 1996. Davis, who allegedly orchestrated the killing, revealed during the interview with Los Angeles police that he and Anderson were in a white Cadillac when the shooting occurred.

During the recording played for the jurors, Davis mentioned that Anderson fired the shots at Shakur’s car, which also had hip-hop mogul Marion (Suge) Knight inside. Davis explained that he passed the gun to Deandre “Big Dre” Smith, but when Smith refused, Anderson took the weapon and started firing. This was the first time Davis openly discussed his role in the shooting with authorities, a key piece of evidence in the prosecution’s case against him.

Despite his previous statements to the FBI implicating others in Shakur’s murder, Davis has pleaded not guilty to the charges. His lawyer dismissed the prosecution’s claims as fiction and argued that Davis’s stories lacked evidence. Davis had also been briefly considered a suspect in the unsolved 1997 shooting of Shakur’s rival, the Notorious B.I.G., but was later ruled out.

Prosecutors argued that Davis breached confidentiality by sharing details of the shooting in interviews and a memoir, undermining any previous agreements with law enforcement. They allege that Shakur was targeted in retaliation for an earlier altercation involving Anderson at the MGM Grand. Davis recounted seeing Shakur in a black BMW before the shooting and believed Knight had been killed during the incident.

The legacy of Tupac Shakur, a renowned figure in hip-hop and entertainment, has endured long after his tragic death, solidifying his status as a cultural icon and influential artist in the music industry.
