“Mystery Surrounds Death of Woman Found in Norfolk River”

Date:

Authorities are investigating the death of a woman whose body was discovered in a river in Beccles, Norfolk, under circumstances described as “unexplained.”

The woman was found by a member of the public on New Year’s Eve at The Quay along the River Waveney. Upon reporting the discovery to the police, the area was cordoned off for investigation in this popular outdoor spot.

In a statement, Norfolk Police explained that they were alerted to the incident early in the morning of January 1st. Emergency services retrieved the woman’s body from the river, confirming her passing. While the death is currently labeled as unexplained, there is no immediate indication of foul play.

Authorities have reached out to the public for assistance in identifying the woman and determining the events leading up to her demise. Descriptions provided include a white female, aged between 60 and 70, of slight stature, with short curly brown/copper hair, dressed in a cream cardigan, blue top, white jeans, white boots, and possibly carrying a pink coat, torch, and umbrella.

The woman’s identity has not been disclosed as the investigation unfolds. Online tributes from local residents express condolences and sympathy for the situation, even from those who did not know the deceased individual personally.

At the scene, a visible police presence including three patrol cars and a forensics vehicle was observed, with sections of the footpath at The Quay cordoned off with police tape on the day of the incident.

Witnesses at the location, including individuals there for recreational activities like fishing, shared their accounts of the events. They described the scene with emergency services present and expressed their sympathy for the woman’s family.
