“Met Office Urges Drivers: Stock Essential Items for Snow Warnings”

Date:

The Met Office is advising drivers in 108 areas to consider stocking nine essential items in their vehicles due to weather warnings extending until Monday.

Multiple weather warnings for snow and ice have been issued in England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, with some areas potentially experiencing up to 16 inches of snow.

Motorists are cautioned about possible road disruptions due to snow and ice impacts, prompting the Met Office to recommend carrying essential items such as warm clothing, food, water, a blanket, a torch, ice scraper/de-icer, a warning triangle, high visibility vest, and an in-car phone charger.

In northern Scotland, a yellow warning for snow and ice is in effect, with up to 30cm of snow on high ground and 10cm at lower levels, potentially causing power outages and travel delays until midnight tomorrow.

An amber warning is set for parts of northern and eastern Scotland starting tomorrow, with up to 40cm of snow and temporary blizzard conditions expected until Saturday noon.

Northern Ireland faces a yellow warning for snow and ice until 10am tomorrow, while large parts of England and Wales have a similar warning until midday tomorrow, with potential snow accumulations of 5cm on higher grounds.

The east coast of England is under a yellow warning for snow and ice on Saturday, with expected snowfall leading to longer journey times and possible accumulations of 8cm.

Scotland has an expanded warning for snow and ice for the weekend, with up to 30cm of snow over higher ground and 15cm in lower areas.

Drivers are urged to prepare for the challenging conditions and stay safe on the roads during this wintry spell.
