Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are set to create history with a highly anticipated rematch, marking the first professional boxing event ever to take place at The Las Vegas Sphere in September.
The two iconic boxers previously faced off in what was famously dubbed the ‘Fight of the Century’ in 2015, with Mayweather emerging as the victor. Despite both fighters retiring from the sport, a rematch has now been confirmed by Netflix to be held on September 19 at The Las Vegas Sphere, following their success in televising other significant boxing events.
The upcoming Mayweather vs. Pacquiao rematch is expected to break records as one of the most financially lucrative fights in boxing history. Their previous encounter at the MGM Grand Garden Arena garnered a staggering £4.6 million in pay-per-view buys and set a record gate of $72.2 million (£53.5 million).
Mayweather reportedly earned $250 million (£185.3 million) from their initial bout, while Pacquiao took home $150 million (£111.2 million). With Mayweather holding a perfect 50-0 record, the stakes are high for both fighters in this rematch, which is set to be officially sanctioned.
Following the rematch announcement, Pacquiao expressed his excitement, stating that the fans deserve this eagerly awaited rematch, which will be globally streamed live on Netflix. He emphasized his dedication to delivering a victory that would remain a significant part of Mayweather’s professional record and bring glory to the Philippines.
In response, Mayweather confidently stated that the result of the upcoming fight would mirror their previous encounter. Both fighters are expected to engage in warm-up matches before their anticipated showdown, with Pacquiao scheduled to face Ruslan Provodnikov and Mayweather likely to confront Mike Tyson in the lead-up.
This historic event will mark the first boxing spectacle at The Sphere and only the second sports event overall, following UFC 306 held at the venue in September 2024.
