Luke Littler’s performance in the opening round of the 2025-26 PDC World Championship against Darius Labanauskas has garnered praise. Despite a challenging match, the 18-year-old secured a 3-0 victory at Alexandra Palace.
Labanauskas, the 95th-ranked player globally, displayed skill by clinching the first leg with a 130 checkout on the bull. The encounter saw both players pushing the first two sets to deciding legs. Ultimately, Littler managed to defeat Labanauskas, a former World Championship quarter-finalist, setting up a second-round showdown with either David Davies from Wales or Mario Vandenbogaerde from Belgium.
Reflecting on his win, Littler shared, “It wasn’t easy, but I’m pleased with the outcome. Winning a leg and a set helped calm my nerves. The first set was crucial, especially playing against the darts. The first round is always tough for everyone in the tournament, regardless of the opponent. I’m satisfied with my performance.”
Commenting on Littler’s match, Sky Sports pundit Mark Webster highlighted the intensity of the game. He noted, “Labanauskas tested Littler, but Littler had the answers. Even on an off day, Littler’s performance was commendable, maintaining an impressive average. Labanauskas provided a challenge, but Littler’s determination prevailed.”
Following his victory, Littler now has a well-deserved break of 10 days. The young talent, who previously lifted the Sid Waddell Trophy, aims to defend his title in the upcoming final next month.
As the first round progresses, the tournament will continue until next Friday, leading up to the final scheduled for January 3, 2026.
