“London Hunger Striker’s Family Urges Govt Action”

Date:

The family of a hunger striker in jail is deeply concerned and has urgently appealed to the government. Kamran Ahmed, a 28-year-old from London, has been on a hunger strike for 44 days to protest in support of Palestine. He has been in custody at HMP Pentonville for seven months, accused of breaking into the UK premises of an Israel-based defense company in Bristol.

Despite being hospitalized due to critical health issues during his hunger strike, Ahmed remains resolute, believing that sacrificing his life for his cause is justified. His family has submitted a legal letter to Justice Secretary David Lammy, expressing their intent to take legal action. They have accused the government of disregarding its own safety policies for prisoners, a claim the government denies.

In response to these allegations, a Ministry of Justice spokesperson has refuted the claims, emphasizing the importance of providing support to the prisoners for their recovery. The hunger striker’s family members have expressed their distress over the lack of communication regarding his health status, fearing for his well-being.

While Prime Minister Keir Starmer has asserted that proper procedures are being followed, concerns have been raised about the government’s response to the hunger strike. Lord Timpson, the Prisons Minister, highlighted that hunger strikes are not uncommon in prisons and that measures are in place to ensure prisoner safety. He emphasized that healthcare teams within prisons deliver NHS care and closely monitor the situation.

The hunger striker’s family continues to seek intervention and support from the government, emphasizing the importance of transparency and integrity in the justice system. They are pleading for humane treatment and regular updates on the hunger striker’s condition, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
