Rumors are circulating that King Charles may be planning an official visit to the US in the coming months. A Trump official has acknowledged the less-than-glamorous conditions the monarch might encounter during his potential visit.
Discussions are reportedly in progress for King Charles to visit the United States, although the Palace has not confirmed it officially yet. Sources close to the royal family suggest that King Charles and Queen Camilla are expected to journey to America in the Spring, coinciding with the 250th anniversary of the US Declaration of Independence.
Contrary to the lavish treatment received by Donald Trump during his UK state visit last September, it has been disclosed that King Charles may not be greeted with the same level of grandeur. White House staff secretary Will Scharff mentioned the possibility of the King using a portable lavatory due to ongoing renovations at the presidential residence.
State leaders visiting the White House are currently accommodated in elaborate tents on the South Lawn due to space constraints in the East Room. Portable toilets have been set up nearby to provide convenience for guests during the renovations.
Mr. Scharff acknowledged the unfavorable state of affairs at the White House for hosting important foreign dignitaries, highlighting that it does not reflect positively on the US.
Reportedly, The Times has indicated that King Charles’s visit is anticipated in April, marking the first visit by a British monarch since 2007 when Queen Elizabeth II was hosted by former US President George W. Bush.
This visit would also be Charles’s first trip to the US since his son Prince Harry relocated to California with his wife, Meghan, in 2020, with no expected meeting between them during the visit.
President Trump has shown admiration for the royal family, considering them an asset for UK-US diplomatic relations. Following a state visit by Trump to the UK, where King Charles hosted him, the President praised the King as a “great gentleman and a great King.”
