Passengers of a Jet2 flight experienced a nightmarish ordeal after their flight from Lanzarote to Manchester was canceled due to inclement weather. While some travelers were accommodated in hotels, others, including families with young children, had to spend the night on the cold airport floor. Carl Bickerton, a holidaymaker from Stockport, recounted waiting for hours before finally boarding a flight home with his family.
The situation at the airport became chaotic as passengers were left stranded without clear information. Despite efforts by Jet2 staff to secure hotel rooms, many passengers ended up sleeping on chairs or the floor. Some passengers, including those with special needs, faced difficulties accessing necessary medications.
In the morning, passengers were provided with 20 Euro vouchers for food and drink before being informed that they would board the flight at noon. Mr. Bickerton described the experience as surreal, with limited communication and a sense of disarray among stranded passengers. While some were eventually able to leave for hotels, others remained at the airport awaiting their rescheduled flight.
Jet2 has been contacted for a response regarding the incident. A spokesperson for César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport acknowledged the disruptions caused by adverse weather conditions and emphasized that passenger assistance falls under the airlines’ responsibility, with the airport providing support as needed.
