Lucy Letby, a notorious baby killer, marked her 36th birthday in solitary confinement at HMP Bronzefield in Ashford, Surrey, where she is serving 15 life sentences for taking the lives of seven infants. Despite being surrounded by fellow criminals like Beniash Batool and Marie Black, Letby had a desolate birthday, with only letters from her supporters to keep her company.
Her barrister, Mark McDonald, revealed that Letby has been receiving cards and letters from her followers, who continue to stand by her as the families of her victims mourn. Some supporters claim Letby’s innocence, citing evidence from a group of experts who suggest the deaths were due to medical negligence and natural causes.
However, these claims have been criticized by the parents of the victims as a publicity stunt, with one parent describing the efforts as disrespectful and upsetting. They maintain their trust in the British justice system and believe that the jury’s decision was correct.
McDonald emphasized Letby’s consistent plea of innocence and mentioned ongoing efforts to present new expert reports that could potentially overturn her conviction. He highlighted a previous press conference where neonatology experts concluded that no crimes were committed at the hospital where Letby worked, attributing the deaths to systemic issues in the unit.
Contrary to her crimes, McDonald surprisingly stated that Letby, known as the “angel of death” for injecting air into infants’ bloodstreams, actually has a love for children.
