Recent reports detailed an ICE agent shooting a man in the leg in the northern part of the city. This occurred shortly after Renee Good, a mother of three, was tragically killed by gunfire. According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the ICE agent fired at the man after he allegedly tried to evade a targeted traffic stop, crashed his car, and then wielded a snow shovel and broom handle in an attempt to attack the agent.
The DHS, overseen by Trump ally Kristi Noem, managed to involve the former President in their response, insinuating a connection between Biden and the unrest in the city. The DHS statement emphasized that the individual involved in the shooting was released into the country by Joe Biden.
Criticism was directed at Trump for continually trying to implicate Biden, who has been out of political office for a year. These attempts were seen as an effort to divert attention from the actions of ICE agents in Minneapolis.
The Trump administration also targeted the Democrat Governor Tim Walz and Mayor Jacob Frey, accusing them of encouraging resistance against ICE and federal law enforcement officers. The DHS condemned the leaders for their alleged rhetoric and resistance, attributing a rise in assaults against law enforcement officers to their actions.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche went as far as labeling the governor and mayor’s actions as “terrorism.” However, Mayor Frey stood up against such accusations, criticizing ICE for causing turmoil in Minnesota and facing backlash from the Trump administration.
