During this festive season, many of us enjoy treating ourselves to a tin of chocolates to share with loved ones or savor alone. However, if you’re considering this indulgence, it might be wise to budget for it.
Traditionally, a tin of holiday chocolates would have cost no more than five pounds. Yet, during a recent supermarket visit, I was taken aback by the prices of Cadbury Roses and Heroes tins. While browsing at my local Sainsbury’s, I had the notion of purchasing a tin of chocolates to enjoy while watching a Christmas movie.
To my surprise, both the 700g tins of Cadbury Roses and Heroes were priced at £16.50.
One consolation is that Nectar cardholders can acquire these chocolate tins for £10, although it still seems rather expensive to me.
Fortunately, Sainsbury’s offers more affordable options for chocolate tins this Christmas season.
According to the website, the Cadbury Dairy Milk Chocolate Mixed Chunks Tin (60g) is priced at £9.59 or £6.50 with a Nectar card. Additionally, a 750g tin of Quality Street costs £13 or £8.50 with a Nectar card.
For just £6, shoppers at Sainsbury’s can purchase a 500-550g tub of Celebrations, Heroes, and Quality Street.
For those seeking better deals, Tesco currently offers the same 500-550g Celebrations and Quality Street tubs for only £3.95 with a Clubcard, or £4.50 at regular price.
Moreover, the £16.50/£10 Heroes tub at Sainsbury’s is priced at just £7.50 with a Clubcard at Tesco, but it retails for £15 without a discount.
This pricing revelation follows a recent report on the most budget-friendly supermarkets for Christmas chocolate tubs.
The study revealed that standard tubs of Heroes, Roses, and Celebrations are all priced under £5 at Asda currently, while Morrisons offers them for £7 (or £5.50 with a Morrisons More Card).
As previously mentioned, Celebrations and Quality Street tubs are available for just £3.95 with a Clubcard at Tesco, while Roses and Heroes cost £7 (or £5.25 with a Clubcard). Aldi and Lidl also stock tubs priced under £5.
Although Marks and Spencer and Waitrose do not carry traditional tubs on their websites, both retailers provide smaller pouch-sized packets and alternative festive chocolates ranging from approximately £4 to £10.
