Heathrow Airport to Raise “Kiss and Fly” Fee by 16%

Date:

Heathrow Airport will increase its drop-off charge for the “kiss and fly” service by 16% starting January 1. The current fee of £6 will rise to £7, with a maximum 10-minute stay limit in place. Drivers exceeding this time limit risk receiving an £80 parking charge notice.

A representative from the airport stated that this adjustment aligns Heathrow’s Terminal drop-off charge with other major UK airports, supporting their sustainability strategy by reducing congestion, promoting public transport usage, and optimizing forecourt utilization. Free drop-off and pick-up choices remain accessible at all terminals through Park & Ride car parks.

Travel expert Guy Hobbs from consumer group Which? expressed concerns over the price increase and strict time restriction, suggesting alternative long stay car parks as free drop-off options at major UK airports. Heathrow reported that 95% of passengers already complete their drop-offs within the allotted 10 minutes to streamline traffic flow and ease congestion.

The airport emphasized that the drop-off fee contributes to investments in bus, rail, and sustainable transport initiatives, encouraging environmentally friendly travel choices. Heathrow’s website highlights the convenience of its drop-off areas located directly outside each terminal for quick and easy passenger drop-offs. Payment options include single drop-off payments or pre-payment for multiple drop-offs online or by phone, with fees due by midnight the following day.

Recent financial results showed a 2% revenue increase to £2.7 billion in the first nine months of 2025 for Heathrow, attributed to robust long-haul flights and increased premium service adoption. Profits slightly decreased by 0.2% but remained at £1.5 billion.

Unlike many UK airports, Heathrow’s drop-off area does not allow passenger pick-ups, directing such activities to its car parks with a minimal 30-minute charge. This price adjustment follows a report by the RAC in July, revealing that over half of the UK’s busiest airports raised their drop-off fees this year, with some increasing charges by up to a third for brief stops.

While UK drivers face escalating fees, most European airports offer free drop-offs according to the RAC. Among the top 20 airports by passenger numbers in 2024, 11 had raised prices since the previous year, with Belfast City experiencing the highest increase to £4 for 10 minutes. London Luton and Manchester were noted as the most expensive on a cost-per-minute basis, charging £5 for five minutes.
