Google has issued a crucial alert for MacBook users who rely on the Chrome browser. The tech giant announced the discontinuation of Chrome support for older versions of Apple’s macOS platform. While Chrome will remain functional on MacBooks and iMacs, users will no longer receive updates or security patches, potentially making them more susceptible to cyber threats.
The changes will impact users running macOS 12 (Monterey) or earlier versions. Those on outdated platforms must upgrade to a newer system like macOS Ventura to ensure continued browser support. Unfortunately, some Mac models, including pre-2018 MacBook Airs and iMacs older than the 2017 model, are incompatible with Ventura, potentially requiring users to invest in new devices for safe Chrome usage.
The update is set to take effect starting July this year. Google confirmed that Chrome 150 is the final version compatible with macOS 12 (Monterey), with Chrome 151, scheduled for release on July 28, 2026, necessitating macOS 13 Ventura or later for future updates. While older Chrome versions will still function, no further updates will be provided for macOS 12 users, emphasizing the importance of transitioning to macOS 13 or newer for enhanced security and Chrome features.
