A tragic helicopter crash claimed the lives of four family members, including a man and his three nieces, just before his scheduled wedding. The pilot, David McCarty, 59, was taking Rachel McCarty, 22, Faith McCarty, 21, and Katelyn Heideman, 21, for a flight in Arizona when the helicopter collided with a slackline on January 2. The crash occurred in Telegraph Canyon, around 64 miles east of Phoenix, leading to the fatal accident.
Responders had to trek to the remote crash site, confirming the deaths of the occupants hours later. The helicopter had departed from an airport in Queen Creek, where McCarty resided. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) imposed a temporary flight restriction as recovery efforts took place.
