Disneyland Monorail Evacuated Safely Amid Power Outage

Date:

A significant number of individuals were evacuated from the Disneyland Monorail as they were required to disembark from the tracks due to a power outage. Approximately 60 passengers were removed from the monorail after it halted near the Space Mountain attraction. According to the Anaheim police, emergency personnel utilized ladders to safely assist the passengers down, resulting in no injuries.

An Anaheim Fire Department fire engine positioned below the monorail track deployed its ladder towards the train, while firefighters carefully guided passengers along the narrow walkway to ensure their safety. A spokesperson from Disneyland Resorts mentioned that the monorail beam experienced a power loss on a Thursday afternoon, affecting two trains. By 7 pm, all riders had been successfully evacuated. A visitor stuck on the ride informed KTLA that the vehicle lost power around 3:30 pm.

The Disneyland monorail travels along a 2.5-mile elevated track above the park, operating every 10 minutes. The 13-minute round-trip offers park visitors views of popular areas such as Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, Hollywood Land, the Grand Californian Hotel, and the Downtown Disney District.

Describing the monorail, the Disneyland website states, “The Disneyland Monorail was the pioneering transportation system of its kind in the United States. The present iteration combines the sleek design of the 1959 classic with modern technologies and subtle design modifications, giving a retro-futuristic appearance and contemporary touch to the enduring Disneyland symbol. Today, the Disneyland Monorail comprises the Red, Blue, and Orange Mark VII trains. Being powered by a 600-volt DC source, the system does not emit direct exhaust or pollutants into the air.”

Initially established as an attraction, the Disneyland Monorail transitioned into a practical transportation system by 1961, shuttling visitors to and from the nearby Disneyland Hotel. Following numerous upgrades over the years, the park’s current fleet of train cars commenced serving guests between 2008 and 2009.

In a separate incident, in November 2025, a malfunction occurred with Monorail Silver at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. The electrical issue near the Grand Floridian Resort led to smoke emerging between two train cabins. Promptly responding fire crews handled the malfunction, extinguished the fire, and safely evacuated passengers from the suspended track. The occurrence temporarily disrupted transportation flow as guests resorted to alternate options like buses, boats, and ferries.
