After being apprehended by American special forces in Venezuela, President Nicolas Maduro has unexpectedly gained popularity as a fashion icon. The Venezuelan leader was captured by the elite Delta Force of the US in a covert operation and transported to America. Following his capture, a photograph was released showing Maduro in US custody aboard the USS Iwo Jima, wearing a blindfold, ear protectors, and a Nike Tech tracksuit.
The release of the image by President Donald Trump on Truth Social led to a swift sell-out of the Nike tracksuit worn by Maduro. The attire, consisting of a £109.99 Nike Tech fleece and £89.99 bottoms, is a favored choice among athletes and musicians, now dubbed the ‘Maduro fit.’
A meme featuring the politician in the tracksuit with Nike’s slogan ‘Just Do It’ went viral, sparking humor and discussion online. Despite the initial attention on his attire, Maduro was later spotted in New York sporting an all-black outfit with socks and sliders, and subsequently in orange prison overalls.
Appearing in court alongside his wife Cilia Flores, Maduro faced accusations of being a ‘narco-terrorist’ by the US government. Maintaining his innocence, Maduro declared in court that he was not guilty, asserting his position as the legitimate president of Venezuela. The court proceedings included charges of narco-terrorism conspiracy and cocaine importation conspiracy against Maduro and Flores, among others.
The indictment against Maduro and Flores also includes charges related to possession of machine guns, destructive devices, and conspiracy to possess such weapons. Their capture in a nighttime military operation, described as ‘dark and deadly’ by President Trump, resulted in casualties, including civilians and military personnel, according to a senior Venezuelan official.
