Paige Bueckers showcased a remarkable performance in the second half, scoring all 22 of her points to lead the Dallas Wings to a 94-88 victory over the struggling Toronto Tempo on Wednesday. This defeat marked the Tempo’s 10th consecutive loss since they joined the league.
Despite missing all seven of her shots in the first half, Bueckers went 4 of 4 from both the field and the free-throw line in the third quarter, contributing 13 crucial points. The Wings snapped a three-game losing streak, their longest of the season.
Arike Ogunbowale also had a standout game, scoring 21 points with season-high numbers in free throws and attempts, making 13 of 14 shots. Alanna Smith chipped in with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Awak Kuier added 14 points to the scoreboard.
Dallas had to play without key players Jessica Shepard and Azzi Fudd. Shepard sustained an ankle injury in the previous game against Minnesota, while Fudd has been sidelined for three games due to a knee injury.
Marina Mabrey led the Tempo’s efforts with 23 points, 14 of which came in the fourth quarter when the team narrowed the gap to within three points after being down by 18 late in the third quarter.
Bueckers demonstrated her all-around skills with eight assists and three steals, one of which led to a breakaway layup that extended the Wings’ lead to 10 points with just over three minutes remaining. The Tempo managed to reduce the deficit to four points in the final minute, but Bueckers responded with a crucial jumper to push the lead back to six before Isabelle Harrison was charged with a foul.
In the second half, Bueckers shot 7 of 11 from the field and converted all seven of her free-throw attempts. Laura Juskaite contributed 18 points, and Kia Nurse added 16 for Toronto, who were missing starters Brittney Sykes and Julie Allemand.
