Former LIV Golf standout Brooks Koepka expressed a mix of nerves and excitement as he prepares to make his return to the PGA Tour this month. Koepka, a five-time Major champion, will face a substantial financial penalty, potentially reaching $90 million, instead of serving a one-year ban.
As the first beneficiary of the new Returning Member Program, exclusive to players who have won a Major or The Players Championship since 2022, Koepka joins the likes of Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, and Cam Smith in rejoining the PGA Tour by February 2, bringing back star power to the competition.
Acknowledging that some players may resent his swift return after departing LIV Golf in late December, Koepka, now ranked world No. 244, will make his comeback at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines on January 29.
Expressing a blend of nervousness and eagerness about his return, Koepka anticipates challenging conversations with fellow players and the media. He acknowledges the financial repercussions imposed by the tour, understanding the intent behind the penalty and the need to rebuild relationships with those affected by his departure.
Despite potential fan backlash, especially at the WM Phoenix Open, Koepka remains optimistic about reconnecting with supporters and moving forward positively. Additionally, he has agreed to donate $5 million to charity and will face various financial restrictions and exclusions from tour programs as a consequence of his departure and return.
