An examination has revealed details about the tragic final moments of a British woman who purportedly traveled to the United States with the intent of being harmed by a man she met on a fetish website.
Sonia Exelby, 32, from Portsmouth, Hampshire, was discovered in a wooded area in Marion Oaks, Florida, after she did not catch her return flight to the UK on October 13. Investigators stated that Sonia left indications on her computer suggesting suicidal tendencies and a plan to travel to the US for potential abuse, torture, and murder.
Following the recovery of Sonia’s remains from a shallow grave, Florida police arrested Dwain Hall on charges of first-degree murder and kidnapping. An autopsy report shared with The Mirror revealed the distressing circumstances leading to Sonia’s demise.
The Marion County Medical Examiner disclosed that Sonia sustained four stab wounds and injuries to various internal organs. The report, finalized on November 4, confirmed that Sonia succumbed to stab wounds to her torso, with the cause of death being classified as a homicide.
The autopsy detailed that Sonia suffered stab wounds ranging from four to seven inches deep and exhibited a “dried, red-orange, “V”-shaped abrasion.”
Toxicology results indicated the probable presence of cannabinoids and a blood alcohol concentration of 0.064 in Sonia’s system. The Cleveland Clinic noted that a blood alcohol level between 0.05% and 0.08% could lead to reduced alertness and impaired judgment.
Sonia’s family mentioned her mental health struggles and her travel to the US on October 10. Hall was apprehended after allegedly trying to use Sonia’s credit cards and later admitted to driving her to an Airbnb after picking her up.
License plate records placed Hall’s vehicle at Gainsville airport when Sonia arrived, with Hall acknowledging discussions on bondage, suicide, and her desire for someone to end her life during police questioning.
Attorney Julia Williamson, representing Hall, confirmed his expected court appearance in February and asserted his plea of not guilty until the receipt of Discovery evidence against him. She expressed condolences for Sonia’s family and friends, acknowledging the sorrow caused by the tragic incident.
