Asda unveiled a new pricing pledge, offering thousands of everyday items at lower prices compared to Tesco, Sainsbury’s, and Morrisons loyalty card rates. Over 2,300 products, including fresh meat, produce, chilled goods, core groceries, and bakery items, now come with reduced price tags at Asda.
Furthermore, Asda announced a special promotion for January, where shoppers can earn 10% back in Asda Rewards Cashpot on all in-store fresh produce purchases. Rachel Eyre, Asda’s Chief Customer Officer, expressed the company’s commitment to helping families save money after the holiday season by providing the best prices on commonly purchased items. Asda Price ensures competitive pricing accessible to all customers without the need for a loyalty card.
In recent market performance, Asda faced a challenging Christmas period with a market share drop to 11.4% in the 12 weeks leading up to December 28, as reported by Worldpanel analysts. The supermarket experienced a 4.2% decline in sales, marking its 22nd consecutive month of sales decrease.
While Asda struggled, competitors Tesco and Sainsbury’s saw growth in customer numbers, solidifying their positions ahead of Asda in the supermarket industry. Tesco also introduced a new initiative to maintain low prices on 3,000 branded products consistently through their Everyday Low Prices campaign.
