Alexandra Palace has secured the rights to host the PDC World Darts Championship until 2031 under a new five-year deal. This agreement puts an end to speculation about the tournament possibly moving from London or out of England.
Starting from the 2026/27 season, the championship will be held in the Great Hall, increasing the capacity to approximately 180,000 spectators, a significant rise from the previous capacity of 110,000. This expansion means each session can now accommodate over 5,000 fans.
Since 2007, Alexandra Palace has been the home of the World Darts Championship. PDC chief executive Matt Porter expressed excitement about extending the partnership until at least 2031, emphasizing the venue’s strong association with the tournament.
The move to the Great Hall is expected to enhance the unique Christmas atmosphere that the championship is renowned for. Alexandra Palace CEO Emma Dagnes OBE highlighted the positive impact of events like the World Darts Championship, not only providing unforgettable experiences but also generating essential revenue to support cultural and educational programs benefiting millions annually.
Ahead of this year’s event, which will feature Luke Littler defending his title against Darius Labanauskas in the first round, the decision to relocate the championship to the Great Hall was made. Additionally, the Matchroom Charitable Foundation will continue to support Alexandra Palace’s Creative Learning Programme with a commitment of £300,000 over three years.
Luke Littler had previously stated his firm stance against the championship moving to Saudi Arabia. The World Series will indeed be held in Saudi Arabia for the first time next year, forming part of the Riyadh Season and featuring top players like Littler and world number one Luke Humphries.
The PDC World Darts Championship kicks off on December 11, and fans can catch every match live exclusively on Sky with the Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle.
