The London, Ont., investigation involving explosives and firearms manufacturing has led to 19 new charges against the four individuals accused, as per court documents filed on Tuesday. Jerry Tong, Zekun (Alex) Wang, Fei (Frank) Han, and Feiyang (Astrid) Ji were originally charged in January, all having ties to Western University as students or recent graduates, with the male individuals having studied in the engineering department.
The updated charges, now totaling 31 separate counts, include possession of specific explosive substances, stolen property, and access to computer data relevant to firearm production. The charges vary, with some being collective against all four suspects and others specific to individual accused parties.
The investigation, which commenced on Jan. 24 following an incident where two men trespassed into a Western engineering building, led to arrests and further inquiries at a residence in the University Heights neighborhood. Police conducted extensive searches at the primary residence on 212 Chesham Place, where Wang, Han, and Ji resided, along with additional homes in Orléans, Ottawa, and Gatineau, Quebec.
Initially facing firearms charges upon their arrest, the accused now confront additional allegations, including possession of magazines, suppression devices, and prohibited firearms. Furthermore, Tong and Wang are accused of mishandling and carelessly storing a rifle. Tong faces the majority of charges, some spanning across different cities, such as Orleans, Ottawa, and Quebec.
Additionally, Wang now faces weapon manufacturing charges dating back to September 2025, along with charges related to an incident at Western University in October 2025. The accused are newly charged with possession of explosive substances, particularly pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN), trinitrotoluene (TNT), dinitrophenol (DNP), hexamethylene triperoxide diamine (HMTD), and lead azide.
Court documents reveal that Tong, Wang, Han, and Ji have been charged with possessing Western University property valued under $5,000. Wang faces a separate charge of accessing computer data related to firearms, specifically design files usable for manufacturing devices with a 3D printer or similar system.
Each accused individual faces a specific number of charges: Tong – 28, Wang – 20, Han – 11, and Ji – 13. Presently, two of the accused are out on bail, while the other two remain in custody. Tong opted not to seek bail, while Han was denied bail and remains in custody. Wang was granted bail with stringent conditions in March, and Ji is also out on bail without sureties.
