“Canada Flag Football Teams Advance to Quarterfinals in World Championships”

Date:

Canada’s male and female teams have progressed to the quarterfinals of the flag football world championships held in Germany. The men’s team finished second in their group with a 2-1 record after losing 37-28 to Japan. Despite an original match against Nigeria, who withdrew due to visa issues, Canada now prepares to face American Samoa in the quarterfinals. Japan’s quarterback, Take Taniguchi, impressed with five touchdown passes, while Canada’s Michael O’Connor threw three TD passes.

On the other hand, the women’s team secured the top spot in their group with a flawless 3-0 record following their 34-20 victory over Japan. Their upcoming quarterfinal match against Austria could lead them to a semifinal clash with the winner of Mexico versus Spain. Sara Parker, the team’s quarterback, shone with four touchdown passes, two of which were caught by Caroline Moquin-Joubert. Alexane Fournier and Marianne Quirion also contributed with TD receptions, and Frederique Morneau added a rushing touchdown as Canada rallied in the second half after trailing 20-13 at halftime.

Not only are the teams competing for the world title, but they are also vying for a chance to qualify for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. The top two finishers at the world championships will secure spots in the Olympics, marking the sport’s debut in the program. All matches from the event can be streamed live on CBCSports.ca and CBC Gem.
