“Vancouver Rise Bolster Defense with Key Signings”

Date:

The Vancouver Rise have strengthened their squad with the recent acquisition of two defenders. This move comes ahead of a crucial match against the Halifax Tides this weekend. Chantelle Swaby, who previously played for Leicester City in the Women’s Super League, and Kaela Hansen, formerly with NSL side AFC Toronto, have joined the Rise.

Head coach Anja Heiner-Moller expressed optimism about the new signings, highlighting Swaby’s physical presence and confidence on the field and Hansen’s adaptability to the team’s style of play as a center-back. Swaby, aged 28, brings a wealth of experience from various leagues around the world, showcasing her ability to remain composed in high-pressure situations.

Hansen, 26, is particularly excited about returning to her hometown of Burnaby, B.C., and playing in front of a supportive crowd while being close to her family. These additions follow the departure of Mariah Lee, who retired last month to pursue a legal education in New York. Additionally, goalkeeper Kirstin Tynan has been loaned to the Halifax Tides for the remainder of the season.

As the Vancouver Rise (5-9-1) aim to secure a playoff spot, currently trailing Halifax by five points, forward Jessica De Fillippo emphasized the importance of this phase of the season. The team is determined to showcase their competitiveness and make a strong push for the playoffs.
