Summer McIntosh clinched her first-ever gold medal at the Pan Pacific swimming competition by triumphing over Australia’s Jenna Forrester in the women’s 400-meter individual medley in Irvine, California. She set a championship record time of 4 minutes and 28.01 seconds, leaving Forrester nearly three seconds behind for the silver medal, while Agostina Hein from Argentina secured the bronze with a time of 4:32.54.
McIntosh expressed her satisfaction with the race, mentioning that while she believed she could have done better, she was pleased to represent Canada and finish first. She highlighted the learning experience from the race and her intention to analyze her performance for future improvements.
Following her individual victory, McIntosh contributed to Canada’s success in the women’s 4×200 freestyle relay, helping the team secure a bronze medal. The Canadian team, led by Mary-Sophie Harvey, finished with a time of 7:52.74, behind Australia and the United States who claimed the top two spots.
In other events, Tristan Jankovics and Lorne Wigginton represented Canada in the men’s 400 IM, while Taylor Ruck achieved a fifth-place finish in the women’s 100 freestyle. The competition also saw outstanding performances from various swimmers, including Katie Ledecky and Meg Harris.
