In the aftermath of Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of The Odyssey earlier this year, both critics and admirers unanimously praised Elliot Page’s exceptional performance in the film. However, despite the success of the movie, the Canadian actor disclosed that he has not been approached for any new roles following the release. Page shared these insights during an interview on the podcast On Film… With Kevin McCarthy.
During the podcast, when questioned by host Kevin McCarthy about his future projects and the anticipated influx of offers post the movie’s success, Page responded, “No, Kevin, I’m not.” Page, who hails from Halifax, garnered acclaim for his portrayal of the Greek soldier Sinon in The Odyssey. Sinon, a pivotal character in Odysseus’s narrative, met an early demise and delivered a poignant monologue from beyond the grave.
Reflecting on the reactions to his performance, Page humorously remarked about facing backlash for being Canadian and alluded to the transphobic controversy stirred by right-wing figures like Ben Shapiro, Megyn Kelly, and Elon Musk. These individuals incited uproar on social media over rumors suggesting Page’s casting as Achilles, a role he did not actually portray.
Page, a seasoned actor with a career spanning back to childhood, gained recognition for his roles in Juno, Inception, and Hard Candy. In 2020, he publicly came out as transgender. Known for his advocacy for the 2SLGBTQ+ community, Page has been vocal against anti-2SLGBTQ+ rhetoric and legislation, notably signing an open letter in 2024 denouncing harmful anti-trans policies in Canada.
In a recent podcast appearance, Page expressed his eagerness to continue working in the industry, noting that his newfound confidence post-transition has enhanced his acting abilities. He conveyed a sense of liberation and belief that he is capable of delivering his best performances moving forward.
Page’s experience on The Odyssey also resonated with Samantha Morton, who played Circe in the film. Morton revealed on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that she has faced challenges in securing new roles post the movie’s release, attributing the shift in the industry’s dynamics to her prolonged hiatus despite her confidence in her acting abilities.
