Fans of Matthew Perry’s character, Chandler Bing, from the iconic show “Friends” were captivated by his performance for many years. However, following his passing in 2023, many struggled to come to terms with the news of his ketamine addiction, which contrasted with the beloved sitcom character they had grown to love.
Netflix has announced a new three-part docuseries titled “The One About Matthew Perry,” promising a comprehensive look into the life of the Canadian actor. The series will chronicle Perry’s journey from a rising comedic talent to his famous role on “Friends,” featuring never-before-heard accounts from his inner circle, including lifelong friends and his sister, Mia Perry Bowick, a grief specialist who has openly discussed her grieving process after Perry’s death.
Bowick expressed that it took time for her to be prepared to share her memories and portray Matthew as a multifaceted individual beyond his on-screen persona as Chandler and his struggles with addiction.
Tragically, Perry was discovered deceased from a ketamine overdose in his backyard hot tub at the age of 54. Several individuals have pleaded guilty to offenses related to providing him with the drug. Dr. Salvador Plasencia, one of them, who sold ketamine to Perry, is currently appealing his 30-month prison sentence.
The docuseries, set to debut on October 27, will not solely focus on positive memories but also delve into the private challenges Perry faced, aiming to honor his legacy of honesty and advocacy.
