Dolly Parton, the iconic singer-songwriter, is set to bring her life story to Broadway through a new musical titled “Dolly: A True Original Musical.” The production, featuring a mix of new songs created for the show and some of Parton’s classic hits like “I Will Always Love You” and “9 to 5,” will debut in New York City on December 7 and run until November 21, 2027.
In a recent video announcement, the 80-year-old Parton emphasized that the musical would delve into her authentic journey, focusing on her roots, experiences, losses, loves, and personal growth. The show aims to provide an intimate portrayal of the artist beyond the glitz and glamour associated with her image.
Having premiered in Nashville last summer to a sold-out audience at the Fisher Center for the Performing Arts, “Dolly” received high praise from director Bartlett Sher for its ability to resonate deeply with viewers. Sher highlighted the profound impact Parton has had on people’s lives, evoking joy and inspiration whenever her name is mentioned.
Parton, a prolific songwriter with over 3,000 compositions under her belt and more than 100 million albums sold worldwide, expressed her excitement about the musical’s Broadway debut. She sees this as an opportunity to share her untold narrative in a raw and unfiltered manner, moving beyond the superficial perceptions associated with her trademark rhinestones.
Tickets for the much-anticipated Broadway run of “Dolly: A True Original Musical” will be available to the public starting Friday, July 10. This production marks a significant milestone in Parton’s enduring career, which spans nearly seven decades and includes prestigious accolades such as inductions into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Country Music Hall of Fame.
