In southern Manitoba, authorities are treating the death of a four-year-old girl and the severe injuries sustained by two toddlers at a residence as suspicious, according to the RCMP. The Manitoba First Nations Police Service responded to a call at a home in Long Plain First Nation after emergency services reported a young child in distress with injuries around 8 a.m. on Sunday, as per a statement from the RCMP released on Tuesday. Tragically, the four-year-old was declared deceased at the scene. The two other children, aged one and two, were transported to the hospital from the residence. One was initially in critical condition, while the other was stable; fortunately, both are now in stable condition. Due to the suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of the four-year-old and the significant injuries to the other children, the RCMP have assumed control of the investigation. Superintendent Rob Lasson, overseeing Manitoba RCMP major crime services, described the situation as deeply concerning and emphasized that the community will be seeking answers regarding the events that transpired in the household. Lasson reassured residents of Long Plain that the RCMP is collaborating closely with the Manitoba First Nations Police Service and community leaders in the ongoing investigation.
