Strictly Come Dancing’s Wynne Evans breaks silence with ‘unexpected’ career update

Published:

Welsh star Wynne Evans, famed for his role as the GoCompare opera singer, has made a comeback after stepping away from the limelight due to a Strictly Come Dancing tour controversy.

Wynne, who also hosted a show on BBC Radio Wales, took a break from the Strictly Live tour and his radio gig when he was caught making an off-colour remark to host Janette Manrara at the event’s Birmingham launch earlier this year.

Now, after returning to social media, Wynne has returned to performing on stage. Posting a video of him singing with a band, Wynne said: “Unexpected to be called up on stage last night. Thanks @jackamblindrums #truthwins #wynners”.

He’s also taken to Instagram with a post-exercise selfie, captioning it with words of encouragement: “New week, bike ride done Try to stay positive you can #TruthWins #wynners”.

In his social media resurgence, Wynne has been peppering his posts with the hashtags #TruthWins and #Wynners. He’s also shared a glimpse into his professional life, informing followers that he’s back in the recording booth.

Sharing a snap featuring a microphone, Wynne teased: “#VoiceOver recording today.” Rumours are swirling that Wynne won’t be gracing future GoCompare adverts, despite being synonymous with the character Gio Compario since 2009, reports Wales Online.

As for his BBC Wales radio programme, Wynne hasn’t made a return yet. Following his departure from the Strictly tour, he released a statement saying: “I’ve agreed with the BBC that I’ll take some time out from my radio show and the Strictly Live tour, as well as my other public commitments, to prioritise my wellbeing.”

He expressed his remorse, saying: “I am deeply sorry for the pain my inappropriate actions have caused, and plan to take this time for self-reflection. Apologies to those I won’t get to see at the remaining performances and I’m grateful to my fellow tour gang for all the amazing support they have given me.”
