“Conor McGregor Skips White House UFC Event, Eyes July Return”

Date:

Conor McGregor has officially announced that he will not be participating in the upcoming UFC event at the White House. Initially rumored to headline a fight against Michael Chandler on President Donald Trump’s front lawn on June 14, McGregor is now slated to make his return to the octagon in July instead. UFC CEO Dana White is expected to reveal the lineup for the White House card on Saturday, with McGregor’s absence confirmed and his comeback scheduled for July 11.

Speaking to Smash Cast, McGregor revealed, “I was under the impression it was at the White House. I was ready for it. McGregor versus Chandler was the plan. Chandler is a formidable opponent, known for his skills in the cage. It would have been an electrifying fight. However, they decided to push my return to the International Fight Week.”

McGregor expressed his understanding of the situation, stating, “I’m okay with it. They might proceed with Chandler, whom I respect and have been preparing to face for the past two years. It’s a bit strange, but he deserves his shot. I’m eager to get back into action and apologize to Chandler for the change.”

Additionally, McGregor confirmed that his return to the octagon will be at welterweight. He stated, “I’ll be fighting at 170 pounds. I’ve bulked up since my last fights. I’m open to any opponent they offer me. I’m waiting for a solid offer from my manager, who is currently in Las Vegas for negotiations.”

With McGregor out of the White House card, speculation is rife that Jon Jones may headline the event, possibly facing former middleweight and light-heavyweight champion Alex Pereira, who recently vacated his 205-pound title.
