A fugitive prisoner who escaped from custody has been apprehended and taken into custody by law enforcement authorities.
Kieran Cameron, aged 43, absconded from HMP Thorn Cross in Warrington, located between Liverpool and Manchester, on January 6. He had been serving a 23-year prison sentence for attempting to commit murder in Dorset back in 2016.
Cheshire Police had issued a public appeal for assistance in locating Cameron, advising people not to approach him. However, in an update released later, the police confirmed that he was discovered in the Hulme area of Greater Manchester and subsequently arrested. The police statement declared, “We are pleased to report that the individual who escaped from HMP Thorn Cross has been apprehended.”
The 43-year-old fugitive was found in the Hulme area of Greater Manchester by officers from the Cheshire Police Serious and Organised Crime unit.
Cameron had been imprisoned for his involvement in a violent incident in February 2016, during which he and another individual, Michael O’Rourke, viciously attacked a 22-year-old man from Poole, inflicting around 10 stab wounds.
Court proceedings revealed that both Cameron and O’Rourke had been threatened by a rival gang, leading them to target the victim, known to them, in an attempt to shift blame onto their adversaries. The victim sustained multiple stab wounds to the stomach, neck, and back of the head during the assault in February 2016.
Detective Sergeant Jamie Halford from Bournemouth CID expressed satisfaction with the court’s sentencing decision, emphasizing zero tolerance for violent knife-related crimes. He commended the prompt actions of members of the public who aided the victim and the medical professionals at Poole Hospital who provided treatment.
