“Sunderland Boasts UK’s Most Affordable Sunday Roasts”

Date:

Few things embody British culture like a delightful Sunday roast or hunting for a good deal.

Britons can rejoice as a study has unveiled the UK cities where you can savor the most affordable roast dinners, allowing you to enjoy a delicious meal while saving money. The cheapest option rings in at £6 below the national average.

With an average price of a mere £12.48, Sunderland in the north-eastern region offers the most budget-friendly roasts in the nation. Research conducted by price comparison specialists, Idealo, has identified the top 10 locations for indulging in a roast without straining your wallet. Other cities like Hull, Sheffield, and Swansea in the north and Wales also provide affordable roast dinner options.

Residents of Sunderland and visitors alike have the opportunity to enjoy great deals on roast dinners at establishments like The Dun Cow, known for its generous servings and cozy, traditional setting.

Another recommended pub is The Welcome Tavern, offering a delectable Sunday lunch praised for its value and ample portions. A patron described the pub as a “lovely historic nautical pub.”

If Sunderland is not within reach, other cities across the UK also present enticing Sunday roast deals.

Taking the second spot on the list of affordable roast cities is Swansea, where the average cost is £15.23. Coventry, the most centrally located city in England, secures the third position with an average price of £16.65.

Popular recommendations in these regions include The Village Inn in Swansea, a highly-rated local favorite with a welcoming coastal ambiance, and The Millpool in Coventry, offering hand-pulled ales and a classic British pub menu.

Hull in East Yorkshire clinches the fourth spot, with an average Sunday dinner cost of £16.76. The subsequent six cities have minimal price differences between them, with Southend-on-Sea at number five charging £16.80 and Sheffield in South Yorkshire at number ten with a cost of just £17.98.

Recently, Mirror writer Shania King-Soyza sampled a roast at a Bristol pub crowned as the best roast dinner spot in 2024 by Bristol Live readers. The Famous Royal Navy Volunteer on King Street, an establishment steeped in history since 1673, is renowned for its “nostalgic and refined” roast dinners.

Reflecting on her experience, Shania noted the impressive Grade II* listed building of the pub, its Tudor-like charm, and the extensive bar boasting 36 beer and cider selections.

Summing up her meal, Shania expressed satisfaction with the portion size and presentation, awarding it a perfect score. However, with a bill totaling £19.50, she contemplated a return visit for the beer selection and desserts rather than solely for the roast.
