Scottie Scheffler has entered the elite $100 million club, joining golf legends Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, following a commanding victory at The American Express to kick off his season. The world No.1 sent a strong message to the current Masters champion, indicating that he is a formidable contender in this year’s Major tournaments.
Last January, Scheffler faced an injury setback, but this year he showcased his prowess by finishing with a six-under 66 in California, securing a four-shot win at 27-under par. This victory marked his 20th PGA Tour win in the past four years, granting him a lifetime membership, with nine of those wins achieved by a margin of four shots or more.
With his on-course earnings totaling $101.1 million, Scheffler now stands alongside Woods and McIlroy as the third player to surpass the nine-digit mark in PGA Tour earnings. At 29, he has also joined Woods and Jack Nicklaus as one of the few players to attain 20 PGA Tour titles and four majors before turning 30.
Reflecting on his achievement, Scheffler expressed his gratitude for being mentioned alongside golf legends like Woods and Nicklaus, acknowledging the significance of his successful career start. He emphasized the importance of staying focused and prepared for upcoming challenges.
Since his first win at the 2022 WM Phoenix Open, Scheffler has outpaced McIlroy with 11 additional victories, including his recent triumph at The American Express. Maintaining a remarkable streak, he has not finished below T-8 since The Players last March.
Former world No.1 Jason Day, who tied as the runner-up, praised Scheffler’s consistency and competitiveness, likening his performance to that of Tiger Woods. Scheffler remains optimistic about his potential for further improvement, despite a slow start last season, setting his sights on the upcoming Masters tournament starting on April 9.
In a notable performance during the tournament, 18-year-old Blades Brown, playing in the final group, shared his awe at witnessing Scheffler’s victory. Brown, tying for 18th place, expressed his admiration for Scheffler’s game and the surreal experience of competing alongside him.
As golf enthusiasts anticipate Scheffler’s future endeavors, his determination and talent continue to captivate the golfing world, hinting at more remarkable achievements to come.
