Ryanair Expands to Tirana: Affordable Flights to Albanian Beach Paradise

Date:

Ryanair, a budget airline, has introduced several new flight routes to a city that is gaining popularity among British travelers, partly due to its proximity to beaches often likened to those in the Maldives.

The airline will be offering 20 additional routes to Tirana, bringing the total number of routes to 43. Starting in spring, passengers can fly to this Albanian city from Liverpool, Birmingham, and Dublin, with flight durations slightly over three hours. These new routes complement Ryanair’s existing services from London-Stansted and Manchester, as well as seasonal flights from Edinburgh.

Flight bookings are open for Liverpool and Dublin with travel dates from March 30, and for Birmingham with dates from March 29. Fares start as low as £23 for one-way tickets in May, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious sunseekers in the spring when temperatures can reach highs of 26C.

For travelers seeking a beach holiday, Tirana offers various options, including Ksamil in the south of the country. Ksamil, known for its white sand beaches and turquoise waters, can be easily reached by bus from the airport in under four hours. The picturesque village is situated between a lagoon and the Ionian Sea, with close proximity to Corfu, drawing comparisons to the Maldives.

To enhance the beach experience, visitors can book a day at Pema E Thatë, a private beach club with cabana rentals. Some beach huts even feature overwater nets for a unique relaxation experience, allowing guests to enjoy ocean views while sipping on a beer priced at around £2.25.

Located just half an hour from Tirana, Durrës is a coastal city boasting sandy beaches, such as Durrës Beach, with a palm-lined promenade and clear blue waters. Travelers can also explore Plazhi i Currilave, a smaller beach area next to the port known for its vibrant atmosphere with beachside bars and restaurants.

In addition to its beaches, Durrës is home to historical attractions such as the Roman amphitheatre and the Venetian Tower of Durrës, offering panoramic views of the coast. Visitors can delve into the region’s rich history at the Muzeu Arkeologjik, an archaeological museum showcasing artifacts dating back thousands of years.

Tirana itself is a captivating city break destination with a blend of architectural styles ranging from Ottoman to Soviet. Skanderbeg Square serves as a central hub for exploring the city, featuring landmarks like the Et’hem Bey Mosque and the National History Museum. Tourists can also visit Bunk’Art 2, a museum housed in a Communist-era nuclear bunker, providing insights into Albania’s history during its Communist era.

For a unique shopping and dining experience, many visitors recommend a trip to Tirana Castle, where remnants of the medieval castle have been transformed into a lively attraction with local food stalls and artisanal shops.
