“McDonald’s Fans Upset as Hash Brown Price Soars”

Date:

McDonald’s enthusiasts expressed their dismay following a viral post on X platform revealing that the price of a hash brown has surged to nearly £2 at certain restaurants.

The post featured an image of a McDonald’s menu board indicating a price of £1.99 for a hash brown at the specific restaurant in question. This post garnered over 459,000 views and was captioned with, “£2 for a single hash brown. We’re calling it quits.”

Reactions poured in, with one individual stating, “It’s getting outrageous, I seldom visit but it used to be an affordable choice.” Another person commented, “For that price, you might as well get the sausage sandwich.” A third simply responded, “Unbelievable.”

Another user chimed in, “Those hash browns are the best thing ever created. However, £2 is just too much.” Someone else reminisced, “I remember when they were 59p.”

In response to the uproar, a McDonald’s spokesperson clarified that many of their restaurants are independently owned and operated by franchisees who determine their pricing. They emphasized a shared commitment to offering customers a top-notch dining experience and good value for money.

This development follows McDonald’s announcement of an upcoming increase in the points required to redeem free food through MyMcDonald’s Rewards. Presently, items like a Big Mac, Double Fillet of Fish, Double Sausage and Egg McMuffin, and Nine Chicken Nuggets require 5,500 points. However, starting March 17, customers will need 6,500 points for these items, with 100 points earned for every £1 spent at McDonald’s.

Furthermore, the points needed for items such as a Medium Coffee or Small Fries will rise from 1,500 to 2,000 points. For a regular McFlurry or an Apple Pie, the threshold will increase from 2,500 to 3,500 points, and for a Double Cheeseburger or a McChicken sandwich, the requirement will be 5,000 points, up from 4,000 points.

A spokesperson for McDonald’s explained that the loyalty scheme adjustments are in response to escalating food and supply expenses. While the points have been raised to reflect these costs, new fan-favorite items like Chicken Selects, Cheese sides, and the new Sausage Sandwich have been introduced for redemption, providing customers with more choices.
