Irish authorities are conducting an investigation into a suspected murder-suicide following the finding of a boy and a man’s bodies in separate residences in west Dublin. Emergency responders were alerted to a dwelling in the Cherry Orchard area of Ballyfermot around 8:30 am on Thursday, where the 48-year-old man’s body was discovered.
After subsequent inquiries, the body of an 11-year-old boy was found at a residence in Clondalkin. Both sites have been secured for forensic analysis by the Technical Bureau of An Garda Siochana, the Irish police service.
The man’s body was located in a shed behind the property. The coroner has been informed, and the Office of the State Pathologist’s assistance has been requested. The bodies have been taken from the scenes, and post-mortem examinations are planned.
A statement from the Gardaí mentioned, “Gardaí are probing the circumstances surrounding the discovery of two bodies at residences in Ballyfermot and Clondalkin on Thursday, January 8, 2026.” Authorities were called to the Cherry Orchard residence in Ballyfermot, where the deceased male, in his 40s, was found.
In follow-up investigations, the body of a young male was found at a residence in Clondalkin. Both locations are being preserved for forensic scrutiny. The male adult’s body has been transferred to the city morgue, while the boy’s body remains at the scene for now. Subsequent examinations will aid in the investigation process, which is under the supervision of a Senior Investigating Officer.
