Man Travels 285 Miles for Driving Test, Canceled Over Wet Seat

Date:

A man with three children traveled 285 miles for a driving test, only to have it canceled due to a wet seat, leading to a delay in retaking the test until April. Jacob Caroll, aged 27, had been struggling to secure a test nearby and eventually expanded his search to Scarborough, a 300-mile trip from his home in Chichester, West Sussex.

Despite meticulously preparing for the test by having his car professionally cleaned, a minor incident where a few raindrops fell on the passenger seat caused the examiner to refuse to proceed. Despite offering a blanket as a solution, the examiner insisted on canceling the test, leaving Jacob frustrated as he now has to wait several months for the next available slot.

Jacob expressed his disappointment, emphasizing that it was just a minor issue with the seat and that he had taken all necessary precautions. His mother-in-law, Vicky Bagshaw, shared her disbelief over the situation, highlighting the impact on the family, especially considering Jacob’s driving would greatly benefit his wife and children.

The DVSA spokesperson refrained from commenting on the specific case but urged any learner driver who feels mistreated to report such incidents promptly for investigation.
