Video footage allegedly capturing the moment a man was shot in the leg by an ICE officer and subsequently cried out for help is circulating online following a recent disturbing anti-immigration event. The Department for Homeland Security (DHS) and City of Minneapolis have verified that a man, reportedly a Venezuelan immigrant according to DHS, was wounded by an ICE agent during a traffic stop. This incident, occurring shortly after the tragic shooting of Renee Good, a mother of three, has incited widespread unrest in Minnesota’s largest city.
The unidentified man, who was swiftly taken to the hospital after the episode last night, can be heard screaming for assistance in a new video clip shared online. The clip, posted shortly after the incident, depicts individuals inside a residence urgently speaking in Spanish, likely making a 911 call. They alleged that ICE agents had been tailing the man who was shot in the leg for approximately 30 minutes before following him to his home and entering.
Reports suggest that the involved agent attempted to shoot the man as he ran towards the house, even firing in the direction of the property while young children were present inside. A plea for help was heard in the video: “Please help us, we have children! I have a baby. We have a little boy in the house.” Another individual later stated, “My husband was being pursued for about half an hour, and they were trying to harm him. He arrived home, and when we shut the door, they shot him. They were far away from us.”
In the aftermath of the widely criticized incident, which triggered protests in Minneapolis and reignited calls for ICE to exit Minnesota, the DHS released a statement. The department asserted that the man had tried to escape a “targeted traffic stop,” claiming he was in the US illegally from Venezuela and had been “permitted into the country by Joe Biden in 2022.” Allegedly, he fled the scene in his vehicle and collided with a parked car while evading arrest. A spokesperson mentioned that the ICE agent shot the man due to feeling threatened for his life and safety during an ambush by three individuals.
According to the spokesperson, the man and two other purported attackers sought refuge in an apartment building before the injured man and the assailant were taken to the hospital. The victim was confirmed to be receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
